Boat Competition 6

This competition was on the list of catch ups with 3 boats venturing out
The tide was a spring of 4.7Mtrs and the wind was forcasted as being from a wsw direction, leaving on time 2 boats proceeded to the Culver/Sandown Area fishing the east run up till about midday, this area produced very few bites and no fish, may have been the strenght of the tide as these areas normally produce.
There were the normal large amounts of of weed in the solent with rough swells over the banks where they come up from the deep, however all 3 boats ended up on the sturbrige bank, within an hour of the competition ending bearing in mind not a lot was caught the fish began to feed, several small smoothound pups were taken aswell as black bream and the winner of the competition Danny Brind on board his boat MO-JO took 2 Undulated Rays on seperate rods at the same time, the largest Ray being a nice Specimen of 7.5Kgs, after the weigh in at the club both Rays were released back to the sea alive.

Boat Competition 4

This competition was on the catchup list and last sunday the all clear was given to fish, the competition was a freelance venue.
4 Boats turned up to fish, the wind was south easterly and was starting to pick up as we were preparing to launch, mackerel bashing was in order at the forts but once past gilkicker it was like the mid atlantic in a force 9 so fishing was contained to the Solent, fishing was hard work due to the size of the tide and the copious amounts of weed, even through the wieghts were low there were several different species caught, the winner was James Williams who was partnering with his dad Tony on San Migel

Boat Competition 5 (Species Race)

Hit or miss whether this one was going to fish but it was on, 4 boats turned up with a total of 8 members fishing, at the start the sea state was calm and there was a lot of cloud cover, it appeared that 2 boats went east and 2 boats stayed in the Solent, fishing in the Solent was dampered by the large amounts of weed, have no idea what the weed was like in the east.
Paul Kean and Richard Seymour both has 4 Species each but Richard had the heaviest weight and therefore won the competition, no members came back empty handed, most if not all the fish were returned to the sea alive

Competition 3

After many weeks of being blown off we finally got the boats out, the competition originaly was to be fished at Bullocks Patch but on the morning it was decided by all present to change the venue to the Sandown Bay Area, 6 boats set off on what can only be described as a perfect morning, blue skys and flat calm, most if not all boats stopped of at No Mans to pick up some Mackerel and there was plenty, wind conditions were fine until slack water and when the west run began so up come the wind, fishing was hard work as we were fishing a 4.5 metre tide but many good fish were landed including a Tope of around 35lbs caught by our boat sec Paul Kean on Sea Mist, Brian Cawte won the competition with a collection of Rays, I am sure that all fished would agree it was a cracking day.
